A lot has changed over the last few months.. I’ve purchased my new camera, bought a new motorcycle, and moved into a new house; one with a studio. Last week I purchased some more equipment, and finally have the area and necessary additions to start shooting more regularly, once again. This afternoon, I was able to do some tests with one of my new backgrounds. Sorry for so much color lately, I don’t know what I’m doing. :) I’m looking to buy a new lens and a printer.. So, $4000.00 would be nice.. A wedding or two would cover that, but I think I’ll collect cans instead. Maybe I can trade someone my Canon 70-200L f/2.8 for a Canon 24-70L f/2.8 lens.. The printer, meh, no chance at a trade.
Anyway, the photo, taken with my Canon 5dmkII, Canon 17-35L f/2.8 lens, and in the new studio.. My attempt at shooting models, who have piercings, in a different light. I’m so tired of the pin-up style of photography that is almost exclusively reserved for these types of figures. Perhaps I’ll start shooting more of this and finally do something with my piercing website, that I’ve owned for almost 10 years, and still have yet to utilize!

I really don’t have anyway of uploading the actual videos and allowing for them to be viewed through this blog; so what I’ve done is converted a sample video to a very small animated gif. Keep in mind that this format is limited to 256 shades of gray. There is much more detail in the actual video.. Nonetheless, I thought it would be interesting to see what I’ve been doing with my new camera, besides shooting stills. :)

My friend, to whom that living room belongs to, went out of town for the weekend and asked that I watch over her house a bit. She also encouraged me to shoot there again, but it was pretty short notice, and I really didn’t have anything lined up.. So, I did a quick search through my list of people I’d like to photograph, and sent out a message to 2 people I haven’t ever had the chance to meet.. I, surprisingly, received an affirmative response from one, and shot her the next evening. Thank god(just an expression).. She was great, and I got to keep my brain from wandering off into the abyss, for at least an evening. Thanks Stevie, for letting me use your place, and Michelle, for shooting with someone you didn’t even know. :)

Amongst the numerous afflictions to haunt me, insomnia has to be one of the most devastating.. I can manage through episodes of mania, and even depression, but being unable to sleep is a promise to myself that tomorrow will be unproductive. My mania today struck early; waking me up before I was actually rested, but having me feel as though I could conquer the world. Of course, my grandiosity lasted the entire day. It’s now 6:29am, and I’ve had no more than 4 hours of sleep, ending about 21 hours ago. My head has exploded with ideas throughout this day and sleep seems to never be an option. I have so many projects on my plate, so many ideas I’d like to explore, but I can’t concentrate for any amount of time that would help to move me in a positive direction. Everything seems to be out of reach, out of focus, and I’m trying so hard to grab onto something that will offer me some stability. I need to be shooting more, I need to be writing my thoughts down more, I need to be more… :(

As I said last week.. This shoot began around 7pm, a bit before sunset. Before setting up the lighting equipment, we used what available light we had coming through the windows to capture a few test images.. 1600 iso, and a big window is all you need..

As stated, I’m adding more images from last weekends shoot.. We shot for hours.. Starting around 7pm going to 10pm until our first break away from the camera.. At about 2 hours in, we moved to the bathroom while I photographed her getting ready to go out. We shot for about 30minutes in here, then 30 more minutes before hitting the town for 3 and a half hours.. Afterwards, we continued to shoot for another 2 and a half hours or so.. Overall, 7pm-4am.. Not your typical time frame for a shoot, but we produced some great results.

So, I’m shooting pretty late last night and talk my girlfriend into picking up my lighting equipment from my model’s place. Somehow, I end up shooting her and leaving the equipment there over night.. Nonetheless, she get’s in on my first real shoot with the new camera. :)

The light was pretty much gone at this point. We did a few more shots, with a wide angle, looking straight down at the sand. I did reduce the clarity on this one a little bit, as it seemed to ask for a softer look. Her skin tone on this sand was a perfect match, and I seriously need to consider going back and doing a longer shoot at this location. I’ll more than likely add this, or one similar to it, to my censored project.

At 9pm, in the sand, under an overpass, I test the low-light capabilities of my camera, once again.. I’m exposing for the body, but of course, turning the moon into what seems like a dust spec on my lens. It’s satisfying to handhold a camera in such low light and still maintain the quality you’d like to expect. I certainly could have shot for the moon as well, and merged the two.. For now, I’m just working on what I see in the camera.
