  • A night in the sand.. cont.

    censored
    07 Jul 2009 | no comments »

The light was pretty much gone at this point.  We did a few more shots, with a wide angle, looking straight down at the sand.  I did reduce the clarity on this one a little bit, as it seemed to ask for a softer look.  Her skin tone on this sand was a perfect match, and I seriously need to consider going back and doing a longer shoot at this location.  I’ll more than likely add this, or one similar to it, to my censored project.

    Hiding in darkness

I must have edited this pic a dozen times, with slight variations.  I like it every time.  It’s dark, almost too dark, if there were such a thing for me.  She’s so sexy on camera, and so normal off camera.  Easily one of my favorite models to shoot.  I don’t like censoring this image, even though it’s barely noticable.  The darkness already does so much to keep this image from being anything more than sensual.  The hair, works perfectly to conceal her identity.  I like the tonality of the image.  From our shoot, this was the only image we tried this dark.  In camera, it looked like it might be too dark, so we moved on.  Don’t worry, I’m smacking myself now.

    Realism

A lot of the photographers, these days, would immediately remove the moles as the first part of the workflow in the editing of this photo.  Of course, then the skin smoothing, hair removal, and all of that follows..  I don’t do all that much editing when it comes to my work.  Dodging, burning, cropping, and some level adjustments.  I prefer to capture as opposed to create.  This image is a perfect example of that.  The censor bar; I believe it adds an element of mystery.

Additionally, I’d like to add that the imagesadded to this site are in no way to be considered as part of any complete collection of works.  I am, however, using this site as a way to prepare myself for some sort of final product which will include some of the work posted here.  Seeing them in use, helps me better decide which selected pieces may or may not be included..   This one will more than likely make the cut.

    From Darkness

There’s a fine line to be aware of when playing with light across your models body.  I know this all too well, as I’m tripping all over it every time I shoot. :)  Occasionally, something spawns from the simplest of photographs.  With just a little burning, you get something you wished you’d done a lot more of.  The models left breast is a little “hot”, but my real regret is for my viewer.  It’s a shame this one is censored.  The bar takes away something very real about this photo.

    Using Shadows

Originally, this image was already censored on some level.  Personally, I don’t see any reason for there to ever be concern in reference to showing a woman’s breasts.  When I create an image, I think nothing of it.  I am, at times, concerned about showing other parts.  I don’t want to be, and I don’t feel I should be, but the venues often dictate otherwise.  Light placement can really help create a beautiful scene.  People often talk about photography as capturing light…  Sometimes, I think it’s more interesting to think of it as capturing shadows.  Nonetheless, adding a censorship bar to this image only duplicates what I’ve already done here.  Interesting..

    Censored Piercings

As I continue to post images from my collection, I can see how, in some cases, censoring the image does impact the overall photo.  This shot, originally from my ongoing piercing project, changes dramatically by placing a bar over the models pierced nipples.

Living where I live, and even encountering censorship on Internet forums, I’ve often been puzzled at the point in which people draw the line concerning censorship and photography.  Is it the actual parts of the human body, on display, that does it?  Is it suggestive positioning?  Lighting?  Or is it simply the emotion evoked by the individual who reflects his own vision on what he sees before him?  I don’t think a black bar, strategically placed, can keep an image from being sensual or even erotic, but I’d like to find out.  Welcome to one of my new projects…
